About Judo
Derived from two syllables, ‘Ju’, meaning 'gentle', and ‘do’ meaning 'way', Judo is best known for its spectacular throwing techniques (Nagewaza), it also involves grappling and restraints (Newaza), arm bars (Kansetsuwaza), and strangulation techniques (Shimewaza).
Judo is an excellent physical activity for all round conditioning and is practiced on special mats for comfort and safety. It is unique in that all age groups, both sexes, and most disabled persons can participate together in learning and practicing the art. The techniques and principles of Judo are universal. You can travel or relocate overseas, and still find a place to train, although the styles of teaching and promotion standards vary slightly. This is especially helpful for children, as the material will always be the same and you will always be able to find a dojo.
While all martial arts promote discipline, character building and physical development, Judo offers much more. Break falls, breaking balance, throwing and grappling techniques involve anatomical physics. Application of combination techniques and follow up hones improvisation skills. Timing and co-ordination of the hips, hands, feet and head in the execution of techniques emphasizes on fluidity and flexibility. |

Our Classes
Our judo classes and activities create opportunities for developing self-confidence, assertiveness, and leadership skills, as well as physical coordination, power, and flexibility, while honing valuable personal protection skills. To maintain a consistent level of instruction and supervision, classes are kept small (maximum 24 participants). Not more than 6 students are assigned to 1 trainer.
If you are still unsure about making a commitment, please contact us to discuss your training needs. We also offer trial options, especially for younger children, so you don’t need to make a huge financial commitment up front if you feel that it isn’t for you or your child.
